Internet Safety

Updated June 2026

At Pembroke Primary, we use digital technology to inspire creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration from the Foundation Phase through to Year 6. In line with the Curriculum for Wales, we teach our pupils how to be responsible digital citizens who look after their online well-being.

As primary-aged children take their first steps into the digital world—whether through gaming, watching videos, or doing homework—they need active guidance. This page is designed to help you navigate your child's digital journey safely.

Key Areas for Primary Families

  • Smart Gaming: Managing in-game chats, age ratings (PEGI), and screen time boundaries on platforms like Roblox and Minecraft.

  • Safe Searching & AI: Helping children understand how to search safely and how to view information critically, especially as they begin to encounter Generative AI tools.

  • Digital Footprints: Teaching children that what they post or share now leaves a permanent digital mark.

  • Device Boundaries: Keeping devices out of bedrooms at night to protect sleep and mental health.

Quick Wins for Home Safety

Play Together: The best way to know what your child is doing online is to join in. Play Roblox with them, watch their favorite YouTuber together, and make tech a shared family activity.

Lock Down Devices: Before handing over a tablet or console, use the built-in parental controls to restrict explicit content, block search engines, and disable in-game spending.

The 'Billboard' Rule: Teach your child a simple rule: “If you wouldn't want your teacher, your grandparents, or the whole school to see it on a giant billboard, don't type it, film it, or share it.”

Keep It in the Living Room: Keep tablets, laptops, and consoles in communal family spaces rather than bedrooms. This makes it much easier to monitor content and manage screen time.

If you ever have any questions about online safety or wish to discuss a concern, please contact our school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) via the school office.
